Shutterstock Repeats Met Gala Photo Coverage

Shutterstock, a leading global agency for stock imagery and music, will repeat their photo coverage at The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Benefit, more popularly known as The Met Gala.

According to Ben Pfeifer, Shutterstock’s SVP of Editorial, it will be the agency’s most recent example of how they are growing their editorial presence at major global events. The May 1st 2017 event in New York City is one of the most anticipated on the international fashion industry’s calendar. Photography from the 2017 Met Gala evening will be for license exclusively through Shutterstock, beginning with the red carpet arrivals and continuing through attendees’ departures later in the night.

In October 2016, The Metropolitan Museum of Art announced the new theme for 2017’s Met Gala as “Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons.” Rei Kawakubo is a Japanese fashion designer known for her so-called anti-fashion that challenges fashion and beauty conventions. She is the founder of Comme des Garçons and Dover Street Market. The Costume Institute celebrates the theme as an exhibition called “Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of The In-Between”, showing at The Met from May 4 through September 4, 2017. According to Vogue, this will also be the first monograph show at The Met to focus on a living designer since 1983 when work by Yves Saint Laurent was exhibited at the venue.

PHOTOLUX Festival 2016

Many eyes in the world of photography are on Photolux 2016 International Festival of Photography in beautiful Tuscany

Photolux Festival 2016 takes place in Lucca, Italy, from 19 November to 11 December 2016. The much anticipated event features exhibitions, Leica talks, workshops and portfolio reviews.

Exhibitions consist of the winners of the World Press Photo 16, the Leica Oskar Barnack Award 2016, the Manuel Rivera-Ortiz Foundation Photography Grant 2016, as well as an exhibit of Vivian Maier: an itinerary from the United States to Champsaur (curated by Enrico Stefanelli). It reveals the 20th century photographer’s lesser known work relating to her photographs taken in her maternal homeland in the French Hautes-Alpes during two visits there between 1950 and 1960.

There are 10 days of Leica talks, starting from the festival’s opening day, which include several book launches along with project presentations and a screening of the movie War Photographer (directed by Christian Frei). Additionally, workshops present opportunities for guidance from some celebrated Italian photographers, who include documentary photographer Paolo Marchetti. Attendees can also avail of portfolio reviews by a range of expert curators, photo editors, photographers and other industry professionals.
