Showcase of the IAFOR Documentary Photography Award 2015 winning images on the theme of ‘Power’
In July 2015, Hosam Katan from Syria was announced as the Grand Prize Winner of the IAFOR Documentary Photography Award 2015 for his images of the conflict in Syria in his own hometown of Aleppo. Simon Norfolk, one of the contest’s judges, praised not just the bravery of the photographer but his keen request for funding to continue with his photography. The young photographer began working for the Reuters news agency after documenting the Syrian civil war in Aleppo.
Also awarded were: Yasmin Balai from Germany (Second Place), Romain Champalaune from France (Third Place), Olga Ingurazova from Russia (Commended Entry) and Liton Masud Alam from Bangladesh (Commended Entry).
Founded in 2009, IAFOR, the International Academic Forum, is a confederation of international leaders and opinion makers dedicated to providing and promoting meaningful dialogue irrespective of international borders. The IAFOR Documentary Photography Award seeks to promote and assist in the professional development of emerging documentary photographers and photojournalists.
